John Carpenter Hosting El Rey Short Film Anthology Premiere
Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network has announced the launch of The People’s Network Showcase, a new series of specials featuring short films from emerging independent filmmakers all over the world, set to air quarterly with new two-hour episodes curated by genre or central story theme, and the master himself John Carpenter will host the premiere on Halloween Eve this October.
According to this week’s report from Deadline, El Rey Network President and G.M. Daniel Tibbets. “The People’s Network is our disruptive tool to demolish the wall between professional and user generated content.”
This marks the first time that El Rey will feature select filmmakers and their work.
Carpenter will help kick off the new series, hosting the premiere episode, The People’s Network Showcase: Horror Edition, on Sunday, October 30 at 8pm EST, in which the director of Halloween, The Thing, and so many other classics will present a total of 10 short films, including the Eli Roth-produced Chainsaw, as part of El Rey’s month-long “Blood, Sweat and Fears” horror programming Halloween event.
In addition to featured shorts, The People’s Network Showcase will include interviews with the filmmakers and vignettes of current industry professionals sharing behind the scenes secrets of their craft.
