‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Come to Life in Teaser Trailer

The film adaptation of the popular horror book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will arrive in theaters this summer, and, following a series of mini-teasers, the official teaser trailer just been released, and it looks fantastic.

The official synopsis: It’s l968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying tome.

Collider recently revealed additional plot details, as Zoe Colletti reportedly plays “a young girl still haunted by her mother’s disappearance on Halloween night — an incident that she suspects her father knows more about than he lets on. Years later, Stella and her friends are involved in a Halloween prank gone wrong. But are they really at fault, or was it the work of a vengeful spirit — a female ghost who uses her scary stories to come after the teens when they begin to investigate the disappearance of several children?”

In addition to Colletti, the cast also includes Michael Garza, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn.

Directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), the film will be produced by Guillermo del Toro, based on Alvin Schwartz‘s popular trilogy of books, which feature illustrations by Stephen Gammell, the first of which was published in 1984.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will arrive in theaters on August 9, 2019.
