When Captain Spaulding Met Art the Clown at Mad Monster Party [Video / Photo Gallery]
The Mad Monster Party horror convention returned to Charlotte, North Carolina for its eighth year on Feb. 22-24, 2019, bringing yet another epic gathering of icons, including genre favorite Sid Haig and newcomer David Howard Thornton, who slipped back into their most infamous characters from two modern Halloween classics, Captain Spaulding of House of 1,000 Corpses and Art the Clown of Terrifier, respectively.
“It’s the clown room,” the great Sid Haig said upon entering where the Get Dead Crew’s Megan Grant would apply his Spaulding makeup on the morning of Sunday, Feb. 24, as David Howard Thornton was already seated in the room and being applied with the first of Art’s many layers by his Terrifier writer/director Damien Leone.
As the characters came to life before our eyes (and cameras), the actors behind the makeup slowly disappeared, and the two baddest clowns of all time emerged for Mad Monster’s exclusive in-costume photo op. You can see the final image, photographed by Carlos Cordova, below, as well as our own photo gallery and video highlights from the transformation process.
When Haig’s makeup was completed, he told Thornton, “Okay, brother, I’ll see you under the big top,” and exited toward his photo op.
