Barony of Marinus Gets Medieval [Video]

The annual Tidewater Comicon returned to Virginia Beach May 18-19, 2019, bringing with it many of the iconic creators, writers, and artists of your favorite comic book heroes and villains, along with stars from TV, movies, and pro wrestling, and dozens of talented vendors, including The Barony of Marinus, a Medieval costuming group.

Halloween Daily News was once again at this event to bring you some of the best highlights we saw on the vendor floor, and we talked to Jess Hellar of The Barony of Marinus, a regional chapter of the worldwide Society for Creative Anachronism.

The group is dedicated to the study of the Middle ages and the Renaissance, and Hellar says they specialize in reenacting anything that is pre-17th Century.

“We have a lot of people that do a lot of Roman (reenactments), especially in the summer around here, because it’s hot.” Hellar said of her Virginia-based chapter. “But anything that’s Medieval lifestyle skills, you’ll probably find someone in our group that knows about it and does it, and can teach it.
