New Details Emerge from the Set of Adam Sandler’s Halloween Comedy

Adam Sandler’s new Netflix comedy, with the working title of Hubie Halloween, is currently filming in and around Salem, Massachusetts, with photos from the set positively overflowing the glorious Halloween atmosphere, and now the full cast has officially been announced.

As area residents have been posting some truly awesome photos to social media of the decorated neighborhood sets where filming is ongoing, two of Sandler’s frequent collaborators were already confirmed, as fans spotted Rob Schneider and Kevin James on set. And a late night video posted by Schneider to Instagram also revealed a lot more familiar faces, including Sandler’s Happy Gilmore co-star Julie Bowen.

Now the full cast has officially been announced, and it includes pretty much all of the Sandler regulars and many more, including Maya Rudolph, Ray Liotta, Michael Chiklis, Kenan Thompson, and Steve Buscemi, as reported by Deadline, which also states that film is currently untitled.

Also joining the cast are China Anne McClain, Paris Berelc, Tim Meadows, Colin Quinn, June Squibb, Shaquille O’Neal, Karan Brar, Noah Schnapp (Stranger Things), Mikey Day, Melissa Villaseñor, Kym Whitley, Lavell Crawford, Betsy Sodaro, George Wallace, and Blake Clark.

The synopsis: Good-natured but eccentric community volunteer Hubie Dubois (Sandler) finds himself at the center of a real murder case on Halloween night. Despite his devotion to his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts (and its legendary Halloween celebration), Hubie is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike. But this year, something really is going bump in the night, and it’s up to Hubie to save Halloween.

From the set photos, we can also gather that a portion of the film will take place during an outdoor Halloween festival, which used actual real vendors from the Salem area to portray the vendor extras and prominently features a gigantic wooden jack-o-lantern.

Also, Kevin James was seen wearing a police uniform, so it’s likely he will be the officer who ends up helping Hubie solve the film’s mystery (or else it’s his character’s costume). And in Rob Schneider’s on set video, Julie Bowen can be seen wearing a waitress uniform, perhaps giving a clue about her character.

This will be Sandler’s sixth film for Netflix.

Steve Brill (Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler) is directing from a screenplay by Sandler and Tim Herlihy for the Happy Madison and Netflix production.

Filming began in early July on location in and around Salem, Mass.

Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date.
