[Interview] Joe Bob Briggs Talks Halloween and the Kind Heart of Horror Fans

We caught up with the great Joe Bob Briggs at the Scares That Care Charity Weekend in Williamsburg, VA in August to talk about the kind heart of horror fans, his affection for colonial Williamsburg, and his own childhood memories of celebrating Halloween.

Making is first Scares That Care appearance at the sixth annual event, Aug. 2-4, 2019, Briggs said of the charity organization, “It’s a wonderful, unique, one of a kind event, the only charity horror con. I can remember a time when horror cons were considered disreputable, so there was no charity that would attach their name to one. I did a film festival in the early ’80s in Dallas, where we were going to give all the money to the March of Dimes. And the March of Dimes found out what kind of movies we were showing, and so they refused to accept our money.

“So time’s have changed, and they’ve changed for the better, and people have learned what big hearts horror fans have.”

We also discussed Joe Bob’s early memories of trick or treating, his favorite Halloween costume, and his personal candy of choice.
