John Carpenter and David Gordon Green Speak on ‘Halloween Kills’

Just before the announcement to delay the release of the upcoming sequel Halloween Kills until October of 2021, executive producer and franchise creator John Carpenter and director and co-writer David Gordon Green each spoke briefly about the highly anticipated film in separate interviews about the themes and violence we can expect, and if what Carpenter says is true, it will definitely live up to its name.

In an interview with IndieWire about the recent passing of legendary film composer Ennio Morricone, with whom he collaborated on the 1982 classic The Thing, Carpenter said of Halloween Kills, “The movie is something else. It’s fun, intense and brutal, a slasher movie times one hundred, big time. It’s huge. I’ve never seen anything like this: the kill count!

In his own interview with the U.K.’s Empire, David Gordon Green adds the following tasty tease: “This first one (Halloween 2018) was more about Laurie’s life of isolation after Michael and her attempts at revenge. It was personal. This (Halloween Kills) is more about the unravelling of a community into chaos. It’s about how fear spreads virally.

In addition to Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her iconic role as Laurie Strode, the cast includes Kyle Richards (read our interview here) reprising her 1978 role as Lindsey Wallace, Nancy Stephens reprising her 1978 role as Nurse Marion, Charles Cyphers reprising his 1978 role as Leigh Brackett, and Anthony Michael Hall, who will take over the role of Tommy Doyle from Brian Andrews, as well as Robert Longstreet as Lonnie Elam, and James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle continuing their collaboration as Michael Myers.

Also back from Halloween 2018 are Andi Matichak as Allyson, Judy Greer as Karen, and Dylan Arnold as Cameron Elam.

Directed by David Gordon Green from a script he co-wrote with Danny McBride and Scott Teems, Halloween Kills was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. John Carpenter returns as an executive producer and has performed the music for the film with his band mates Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies.

Michael Myers will now return when Halloween Kills arrives in theaters on October 15, 2021.
