‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Still on Track for Disney+
Little has been heard about Disney’s sequel to the 1993 family Halloween classic Hocus Pocus since its director was announced back in March, but during yesterday’s Disney Investor Day avalanche of announcements, it was confirmed that Hocus Pocus 2 is still very much in development and on track to eventually land on Disney+.
Adam Shankman (Hairspray, Bedtime Stories, Rock of Ages, What Men Want) will direct Hocus Pocus 2.
Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics) wrote the script for the sequel.
The original film’s cast includes Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, witches resurrected on Halloween night in Salem, Mass., and all three have indicated at various times this year that they are on board for the sequel.
Directed by Kenny Ortega from a script by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert, based on a story by Garris and David Kirschner, the 1993 original also starred Omri Katz, Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw, and Doug Jones (The Shape of Water) as Billy Butcherson.
A sequel of sorts has already happened in book form with 2018’s Hocus Pocus and the All-New Sequel.
We’ll continue to follow this story closely as it develops, but you can view the early title treatment below.
