‘Wrong Turn’ Reimagining Trailer Goes Off the Trail and Teases The Foundation
The new Wrong Turn, a reimagining of the six-film franchise that started with the 2003 original of the same name, is coming in early 2021, and the official trailer and poster were released this week.
Most notably, the new film is written by Alan B. McElroy, who also created the franchise when he wrote the original Wrong Turn (starring Eliza Dushku), as well as 1988’s Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. He has worked in more recent years on hit TV shows including The Vampire Diaries, Star Trek: Discovery, and Jack Ryan. From the trailer and synopsis, it looks like McElroy has embedded plenty of timely social commentary in this latest Turn.
Directed by Mike P. Nelson (The Domestics), the cast includes Charlotte Vega (Warrior Nun), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things, 47 Meters Down), Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Haunt), Bill Sage (Hap and Leonard), Emma Dumont (The Gifted), Valerie Jane Parker (Greenleaf), Chaney Morrow (Haunt) and David Hutchinson (American Horror Story).
Vega plays Jen, who sets out to hike the Appalachian Trail with a group of friends, according to EW. Despite warnings to stick to the trail, the hikers stray off course — and cross into land inhabited by The Foundation, a hidden community of mountain dwellers who use deadly means to protect their way of life. Suddenly under siege, Jen and her friends seem headed to the point of no return, unless Jen’s father (Modine) can reach them in time.
The production is being distributed by Saban Films.
Wrong Turn will premiere in theaters for one night only on Jan. 26, 2021. Tickets for the premiere event will be available at Fathom Events and at movie theater box offices starting on Jan. 8.
