Rob Zombie Confirmed to Direct ‘The Munsters’ Movie

Rumors have circulated for months, but Rob Zombie officially confirmed today that the next film he will direct is a brand new take on The Munsters, the iconic monster family that includes Herman and Lilly Munster, along with little werewolf Eddie Munster, patriarch vampire Grampa Munster, and the decidedly un-monster-ish Marilyn Munster.

Rob Zombie made the announcement on Instagram today, with the following caption: “Attention Boils and Ghouls! The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! THE MUNSTERS! Stay tuned for exciting details as things progress!”

The longtime front man of heavy metal pioneers White Zombie and later his own band since White Zombie’s breakup in 1998, Rob Zombie has previously directed the Firefly Family Trilogy – House of 1,000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, and 3 From Hell – as well as the 2007 Halloween remake and its 2009 sequel, in addition to The Lords of Salem, 31, and The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.

Zombie’s first massive hit as a solo artist was the 1998 song “Dragula,” inspired by the coffin-styled drag racer driven by the Munsters in the original TV series, which ran from 1964 to 1966 on CBS. The property is now owned by NBC/Universal, and as such, it is possible that the new film could be an exclusive for the Peacock streaming network.
