Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’ Series Brings New Addams Family Cast to Netflix

A new live action Addams Family is coming to Netflix in the upcoming Tim Burton-directed series, Wednesday, and today brings confirmation that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman will play Morticia and Gomez, joining Jenna Ortega in the title role.

First announced back in February, Wednesday is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.” It’s said to follow “Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships,” according to Bloody-Disgusting.

It sounds like this new iteration of the iconic Addams Family will fill the hole in Netflix’s programming recently vacated by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but there is honestly no one I would rather see directing this than Burton.

Leading the cast as Wednesday Addams, Jenna Ortega previously starred in The Babysitter: Killer Queen and the series You, and she will next be seen this January’s new Scream movie.

Netflix officially announced today via Twitter (8/9/21) that “Catherine Zeta-Jones will step into the iconic silhouette of Morticia Addams while Luis Guzmán will bring to life the debonair Gomez Addams in the upcoming TV series Wednesday.”

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) are writing and serving as showrunners.

The series will be directed by Tim Burton (Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow).
