Jenna Ortega is ‘Wednesday’ in Tim Burton’s Addams Family Netflix Series Teaser

Our first look at the upcoming Tim Burton-directed series Addams Family series Wednesday was unveiled today in a brief teaser featuring Jenna Ortega in the title role, released to kick off Netflix’s Geeked Week promotional event.

The 30-second teaser provides our first glimpse of Ortega as Wednesday and also features an appearance by Thing, promising, “A twisted new series from the mind of Tim Burton.”

First announced back in February of 2021, Wednesday is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.” It’s said to follow “Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships”.

Leading the cast as Wednesday Addams, Jenna Ortega previously starred in Scream (2022) and Ti West’s X, with Catherine Zeta-Jones stepping into the iconic silhouette of Morticia Addams, while Luis Guzmán brings to life the debonair Gomez Addams in the upcoming TV series Wednesday. Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) also stars. Christina Ricci, who memorably played the role of Wednesday Addams in two live action Addams Family movies in the 1990s, is also a series regular and will be “a major part of the live-action show” in a mystery role confirmed to be “a new character and not an older version of Wednesday.”

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) are writing and serving as showrunners.

All episodes of the series are directed by Tim Burton (Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow).

Wednesday premieres on Netflix this fall.
