‘Trick ‘r Treat 2’ is in “Very Active Development”

A sequel to the modern Halloween classic Trick ‘r Treat is back in active development, according writer/director Michael Dougherty, who dropped the bombshell news following a screening of the original film at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

While cautioning that the sequel is not currently officially greenlit, he told the Beyond Fest audience that he is working with Legendary on moving forward, stating that Trick ‘r Treat 2 is in “very active development” during a Q&A on October 1.

Trick ‘r Treat 2 was previously officially announced back in 2013, but was later put on hold so Dougherty could make Krampus for Legendary, which he then followed up with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, also for Legendary.

After it was unceremoniously released direct-to-DVD initially in 2009, the original Trick ‘r Treat is coming to theaters for the fist time ever this month, playing at Regal theaters starting on October 6, and at select AMC theaters starting on October 21.

The film tells five interwoven stories that all take place in the same town on the same Halloween Night, introducing the lovable spirit of Halloween in the iconic character known simply as Sam.

Stay tuned for more news on Trick ‘r Treat 2 and the big screen return of Sam as this project continues to develop.
