[Interview] Charlotte Fountain-Jardim Talks ‘Natty Knocks’, Halloween, and More
One of this year’s most anticipated Halloween horror movies, Natty Knocks is a new slasher that brings Danielle Harris, Robert Englund, and Bill Moseley together with a talented cast of newcomers, and HDN talked to Charlotte Fountain-Jardim about landing her breakout role in the film, getting screaming lessons from scream queen Danielle Harris on set, and more.
In film, the son of a former B-movie scream queen avenges his mom’s witch-like murder at the hands of local townspeople on Halloween Eve. It is directed by Dwight Little, who gave Harris her debut in the breakout role of Jamie Lloyd in his 1988 sequel Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.
In a fun video conversation earlier this month, Fountain-Jardim tells HDN that Harris actually gave her screaming tips just before her big “screaming scene” with Moseley. “I remember specifically,” she said, “she helped me with my scream a lot, because I didn’t get any training on that. She was really helpful, and honestly just hearing her scream is like a masterclass in itself. She’s so incredible. It was really nice have her, and just hear about everything. It was really lovely.”
On working with Moseley, who delivers another memorably unhinged performance, Fountain-Jardim said, “My first scene that I filmed was actually with him. It was in the police station, and I didn’t meet him before we did our scene. So the first time that I was talking to him, he was this scary guy, and I was like, oh my gosh, he’s so serious, he’s so tense and scary. Then after the scene was over, we got to chatting, and I was like, he is so kind, he is so sweet and inviting. He was really incredible. He could just switch it on. He’s great.”
While Natty marks a reunion for Harris with her Halloween 4 and Marked for Death (1990) director Dwight Little, it also reunites Little with Robert Englund, who he directed in 1989’s The Phantom of the Opera, as well as Jason James Richter, who he directed in 1995’s Free Willy 2 (and who previously co-starred with Harris in 1993’s Free Willy), and Charlotte says that the set felt very much like a family.
“A lot of people were there because of this incredible cast and crew that he had put together,” she said. “It was just so much love, and you could really tell that people were really passionate about making this, which was great.”
On working so close with the industry veterans she co-stars with in Natty Knocks, Charlotte said, “We had a couple conversations, just hanging out on set, and they were really encouraging. It was really nice to see people who’ve been in this business for so long and still have such a love for it, and so many fond memories. And they really love the genre, and they really love the fans and people in it, which is really nice to be welcomed into this wonderful community. They had just great things to say.”
Of course we also talked about celebrating Halloween, as Charlotte describes her Halloween-themed birthday party in July, her ’90s-inspired costume this year, and more.
