Netflix’s ‘Bodkin’ Trailer Teases Irish Samhain Mystery Series
Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the new dark comedy series Bodkin, which centers around a disappearance that occurs during the annual Samhain celebration in the titular Irish town.
According to the official website, Bodkin is “a darkly comedic thriller about a motley crew of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic, coastal Irish town. But once they start pulling at threads, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imagined. As our heroes try to discern fact from fiction — about the case, about their colleagues, and, most painfully, themselves — the series challenges our perception of truth and exposes the stories we tell ourselves to justify our beliefs or validate our fears.”
Shot on location in Ireland, the seven-episode series stars Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, and Robyn Cara as intrepid podcasters. The cast also includes David Wilmot (Station Eleven) and Chris Walley (The Last Voyage of the Demeter).
Bodkin is executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, and is their company Higher Ground Productions’ first scripted drama series at as part of its overall deal with Netflix.
Deadline further reports that Forte plays Gilbert, a charming, open, and enthusiastic podcaster from the U.S. who’s on the hunt for his next big story. Originally from Chicago, Gilbert’s family emigrated from Cork, and is hoping to discover his Irish roots. Cullen portrays Dove, a hard-nosed investigative journalist from Dublin who has a fine-tuned bullshit detector and a healthy disdain for authority and hypocrisy. Cara plays Emmy, a bright, funny and eager to please researcher who has been helping Gilbert organize the podcast.
In the trailer, Forte’s character speaks about “the Irish night of the dead, Samhain,” as a billboard can be seen advertising the upcoming Samhain Festival, glimpses of which can also be seen, including costumes and fire.
Bodkin premieres May 9 on Netflix.
