‘Practical Magic’ Sequel Officially Announced
Something magical is brewing at Warner Bros., as the studio took to social media at the witching hour, midnight, last night to officially announce that a sequel the 1998 supernatural romantic comedy Practical Magic is in development.
On Sunday, a video was dropped on Warner’s socials that promised “something magical” coming later that night, at midnight on TikTok, a nod the Midnight Margaritas scene in the original film.
Warner Bros. has now let the black cat out of the bag that a new feature film sequel, Practical Magic 2, is on the way.
Variety further reports today that Akiva Goldsman will write the screenplay, and the original film’s stars, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are in talks to reprise their roles and are expected to produce the sequel alongside Denise Di Novi.
UPDATE 6/14/23: Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are confirmed to be returning for the sequel.
In the original 1998 film, two witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love. It stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Aiden Quinn, Evan Rachel Wood, Stockard Channing, and Diane Wiest.
The final scene of the movie takes place on Halloween Night.
