[Interview] Director Daniel Kokotajlo Talks ‘Starve Acre’, Folk Horror, and Halloween

The new horror movie Starve Acre arrives this week, and we talked to writer and director Daniel Kokotajlo about the real life folk horror that inspired the atmospheric film, how he shot it to feel like it was made in the 1970s when it takes place, creating the creepiest hare ever put on screen and its own unique place in folklore, and more.

In the film, when their son starts acting strangely, a couple unwittingly allow dark and sinister forces into their home, awakening a long-dormant ancient evil rooted deep in the countryside.

Written and directed by Daniel Kokotajlo, the exceptional cast includes Matt Smith (House of the Dragon), Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud, The Rings of Power), and Erin Richards (Gotham).

In our video conversation last week, we also discussed landing and working with the outstanding cast, and of course we talked about celebrating Halloween, his favorite costumes and treats, and more.

Starve Acre will be released in theaters and on demand this Friday, July 26.
