Official ‘Halloween’ Video Games Announced in Development with John Carpenter
Michael Myers is coming to your home to stalk your consoles in not one, but two new officially licensed Halloween video games just announced. (Happy #MichaelMyersMonday!)
Two new games based on the 1978 horror classic Halloween are in development at Boss Team Games, the makers of Evil Dead: The Game, as first reported today by IGN.
Details are limited at this time, but both games are being developed in conjunction with the producers of the Halloween franchise.
One of the projects, Halloween: The Game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and will include input from original Halloween director John Carpenter, who will be “intimately involved” with the new project.
“As a huge gamer myself,” Carpenter said in statement, “I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.”
According to the official release, the games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.”
“We are very excited to be partnering with Boss Team Games to bring Michael Myers and Halloween to the digital world,” said President of Compass International Pictures and Halloween franchise producer Malek Akkad. “We are committed to delivering the scares, frights, and excitement of the original Halloween film to console and PC players with these new projects.”
Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris said, “Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans. Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”
Aside from the recent Halloween: A Match Made in Terror mobile game, the closest the franchise has seen to an actual video game adaptation is 1983’s Halloween on the Atari 2600, in which you play as a babysitter trying to find a safe room while being hunted by Michael Myers. The Shape has since appeared as a guest character in popular video games Fortnite, Dead by Daylight, and Call of Duty.
Neither of the new Halloween video game projects has a release date yet, but keep watching this site for updates, and be sure to join us for our Michael Myers Monday Live discussion tonight on YouTube.
