[Interview] Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Justin Harding Talk ‘Carved’, Pumpkin Vengeance, and Halloween
Carved is the must-see new killer pumpkin 1990s-set horror comedy that Halloween always had coming, now streaming on Hulu, and we talked to writer/director Justin Harding about his inspiration for this massively fun film and to Peyton Elizabeth Lee about what attracted her to the role of Kira, and we wondered if the angry, vengeful pumpkin at the center of the movie has caused either them to change how they will approach their carving this year.
During a press junket conversation earlier this month, we also of course talked about the Halloween holiday itself and what it means to Justin and Peyton in their own lives, as Harding revealed that his son is totally obsessed with Halloween and actually helped him in approving every visual effect in the film, and more in our wonderfully spirited discussion.
In Carved, when a heartbroken teenage playwright, her younger brother, and a group of survivors become trapped in a historical reenactment village on Halloween night, they must band together to survive a relentless assault by a sentient and vengeful pumpkin.
The film stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Corey Fogelmanis, Wyatt Lindner, Carla Jimenez, Sasha Mason, Jonah Lees, DJ Qualls, Marc-Sully Saint-Fleur, Elvis Nolasco, Matty Cardarople, Jackson Kelly, and Chris Elliott.
Directed by Justin Harding, who co-wrote the film with Cheryl Meyer, the movie marks Harding’s feature directorial debut, based on his short film of the same name that debuted as part of Hulu’s Huluween Film Fest in 2018.
Carved is streaming now on Hulu.
