Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk Remaking Halloween Horror Comedy ‘Idle Hands’
Stranger Things and Ghostbusters: Afterlife star Finn Wolfhard and his filmmaking partner Billy Bryk are about to breath new life into the 1999 Halloween-set horror comedy Idle Hands, with a remake in development.
Variety reports today that Wolfhard and Bryk have signed on to write a reimagining of the 1999 horror comedy film Idle Hands for Sony Pictures, which Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) will produce, adding that Wolfhard and Bryk are being eyed to direct, as well.
Wolfhard and Bryk co-wrote, co-produced, co-directed, and co-star in the upcoming horror comedy Hell of a Summer, which was picked up in August for distribution by Neon, the studio behind this year’s hits Longlegs, Cuckoo, and Immaculate. It will hit theaters next summer.
Reitman and Wolfhard previously collaborated on Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Saturday Night.
The original film was released in 1999, starring Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Chucky), Jessica Alba (Sin City, Machete), Seth Green (Robot Chicken), and Elden Henson (Daredevil), and Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill, Independence Day) centers on a teenage slacker whose hand becomes possessed with murderous intent.
The original Idle Hands takes place entirely around and leading up to Halloween, featuring consistent Halloween atmosphere throughout the film, so here’s hoping that the remake maintains that aesthetic.
