[Interview] David Howard Thornton Talks ‘Terrifier 3’, Art the Clown, Joker, Freddy, and More
Terrifier 3 is undeniably the horror story of 2024, and we can think of no better way to wrap up our year than with a warm and lively conversation with Art the Clown himself, as David Howard Thornton returns to HDN for a brand new deep dive into the unprecedented success of the film, the meteoric rise of Art, the insanity of the new movie’s ultra violent kill scenes, and even some fun speculation on what could lie ahead in Terrifier 4.
In our candid 87-minute video conversation last week, we also talked about Thornton’s full circle moment of playing a new reimagining of Steamboat Willie (after making his stage debut as a kid in Mickey’s Christmas Carol) in the upcoming slasher Screamboat, how he hopes his new short film Jokers Wild will do for him and his take on the Joker what Ryan Reynolds’ early proof of concept video did in getting the first Deadpool movie greenlit, and describes how he would approach playing Freddy Krueger if the opportunity ever came about, calling Robert Englund his “king”.
Perhaps most importantly, David told us how much he hopes this year’s success of this low budget, unrated, totally independent movie will inspire the powers that be in Hollywood to give filmmakers space and time to “cook” without any interference, which he believes is the ultimate reason for the success of the Terrifier films, as writer/director Damien Leone has been allowed to do exactly what he wanted to achieve his vision, uncompromised.
Terrifier 3 is currently available to stream on Digital, and also to own on 4K Ultra HD, as well as Blu-ray and DVD.
