Joel McHale Joins ‘Scream 7’, Jasmin Savoy Brown Returns

After a long road through development hell, filming officially started this month on Scream 7, and today brings news that Joel McHale has joined the cast, playing the husband of Never Campbell’s Sydney Prescott.

While many fans had speculated/expected Patrick Dempsey to reprise his Scream 3 role as Det. Mark Kincaid, who was expected to be Sydney’s husband in the new sequel, Deadline reveals today that Joel McHale (Community) will play a new character named Mark Evans (that way Sydney’s reference to “Mark” in Scream 2022 still makes sense), who is Sydney’s husband.

McHale and the rest of the cast are currently in Atlanta, where filming of Scream 7 is now underway.

Update: Variety also confirms today that Jasmin Savoy Brown will return as Mindy Meeks-Martin.

The new Ghostface sequel brings back Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sydney Prescott (Evans?), as well as Courteney Cox as Gail Weathers, and Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, along with new blood Isobel May as Sydney’s daughter, Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), Asa Germann (The Boys), and Anna Camp (Hysteria, True Blood). Roger L. Jackson once again is the voice of Ghostface.

Franchise creator Kevin Williamson returns to direct the new movie, from a script by Guy Busick, who also co-wrote 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.

Scream 7 will be released in theaters on February 27, 2026.
