‘The Monkey’ New Trailer Previews Osgood Perkins’ Stephen King Adaptation
Following last year’s success of Longlegs, writer and director Osgood Perkins is back with his next horror movie, an adaptation of the Stephen King short story The Monkey, produced by James Wan, and a new official trailer has just dropped.
Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel, Longlegs) wrote the screenplay and directed the feature film adaptation.
Theo James (Underworld: Awakening) stars, along with Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Laura Mennell, Christian Convery, Sarah Levy, Colin O’Brien, and Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends).
The story follows twin brothers Bill and Hall (both played by James in the film), who find their father’s old monkey toy in their childhood home’s attic. When a series of gruesome deaths begin, the brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it kills again.
The original short story “The Monkey” was published in King’s 1985 collection Skeleton Crew.
The Monkey will be released in theaters on February 21, from Neon, the distributor of last year’s Immaculate, Longlegs, and Cuckoo.
