‘The Monkey’ Comes Home, Hitting Physical Media in June

Following last year’s success of Longlegs, writer and director Osgood Perkins is back with his new horror movie, an adaptation of the Stephen King short story The Monkey, produced by James Wan, and it is coming home on digital this week before hitting physical media in June. Read on for complete details.

Award-winning film studio Neon announced today that audiences will soon be able to enjoy Osgood Perkins’ latest trip, The Monkey, at home.

Dubbed “the most outrageous horror movie of the year,” The Monkey is adapted from the Stephen King short story and produced by James Wan (The Conjuring, Saw). When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.

The film marks Neon’s second collaboration with Perkins, and the studio’s second-largest theatrical opening, trailing only Perkins’ previous film Longlegs. To date, The Monkey has grossed over $39 million at the U.S. box office, and over $60 million globally, making it the studio’s third highest-grossing film of all time.

Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel, Longlegs) wrote the screenplay and directed the feature film adaptation.

Theo James (Underworld: Awakening) stars, along with Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Laura Mennell, Christian Convery, Sarah Levy, Colin O’Brien, and Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends).

The original short story “The Monkey” was published in King’s 1985 collection Skeleton Crew.

The Monkey will be available on all digital platforms to own or rent starting on April 4, and on 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray combo, as well as Blu-Ray and DVD starting June 24.
