A24’s ‘Crystal Lake’ Begins Filming, as New Jason Short ‘Sweet Revenge’ Announced

This week brings more exciting news from the Jason Universe on the upcoming Friday the 13th revival, as the much anticipated, long delayed Crystal Lake series in development from A24 for Peacock starring Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees has officially begun filming, and now today a new Jason Voorhees short film, Sweet Revenge, as just been announced.

As this year’s 45th anniversary celebration of the original 1980 slasher that started it all continues, the “centerpiece” of that milestone celebration has been revealed today to be a new vignette to feature the masked killer Jason Voorhees himself, happening as a “collaboration” with Angry Orchard, as reported today by Variety.

This latest Jason Universe project is produced by franchise owner Horror, Inc., described as “the centerpiece of the franchise’s bold 45th anniversary campaign.”

In Sweet Revenge, “fans will drop into a chilling weekend in the woods filled with blood-soaked surprises only Jason can deliver.”

The new short film is written, directed, and produced by Mike P. Nelson, who brings the proper slasher credentials, having previously helmed 2021’s Wrong Turn and the recently wrapped Silent Night, Deadly Night remake coming this Christmas starring Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends).

Sweet Revenge will premiere on both the Jason Universe YouTube channel and through a site hosted by Angry Orchard Hard Cider, which is “sponsoring the vignette as part of a larger collaboration with the franchise.”

A behind the scenes photo was shared today, teasing our first glimpse of Jason in Sweet Revenge, which you can see below.

Meanwhile, the A24 series Crystal Lake is finally happening.

Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini (Scooby-D00) as Jason’s mother Mrs. Voorhees. Series regulars also include William Catlett (Abigail) as a new character named Levon Brooks, Cameron Scoggins (Nashville) as Dorf, the police officer portrayed by Ron Millkie in the original Friday the 13th, as well as Devin Kessler (Godfather of Harlem) as Briana Brooks, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace.

Writer, showrunner, and executive producer Brad Caleb Cane has been sharing updates on Instagram, where he confirmed that Friday, June 20 was the first day of filming.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Jason Universe.
