[Interview] Edge of Paradise’s Margarita Monet Talks Music, Art, and Halloween
Margarita Monet has been making noise in recent years as the dynamic voice of the heavy rock band Edge of Paradise with a string of hard hitting albums that meld metallic riffs with cinematic arrangements and rousing singalong choruses, and as the latest single “The Other Side of Fear” has become an anthem around HDN headquarters, we were beyond excited to talk to the singer, musician, actor, dancer, and artist all about her own origin, her journey, and the messages – sometimes warnings about artificial intelligence – that she hopes to impart and feelings she wants to leave in listeners.
In a our one-on-one video conversation earlier this month, we discussed Monet’s musical and lyrical inspirations, from her scientist father to various movie soundtracks, and the formation of Edge of Paradise and how it took her and co-founder Dave Bates a few years to lock in on their signature sound, which she says they truly “discovered” on 2019’s Universe and then “solidified” with 2021’s The Unknown.
We also of course talked about Halloween and Margarita’s introduction to the holiday at age 11 when she moved from Moscow, Russia to Houston, Texas, as well as her artwork and graphic novels based on Edge of Paradise’s songs, and much more.
The band’s latest album, Prophecy, was released in March of 2025, and an official music video the standout track “The Other Side of Fear” will be released this month.
