[Interview] James DeMonaco Talks ‘The Home’, ‘The Purge’ Masks as Halloween Costumes

The creator of The Purge, writer and director James DeMonaco is back with the new horror movie The Home, arriving in theaters this week, and we talked to the filmmaker recently about how his latest project was born in part out of the pandemic, the importance of always embedding his films with real world commentary, and more.

In a our video conversation earlier this month, we also talked about his thoughts on The Purge masks becoming Halloween costumes, and what Halloween itself means to him.

In The Home, a rebellious twentysomething is sentenced to community service at a quiet retirement home, where the residents on the fourth floor are strictly off-limits, said to require “special care.” As his suspicions grow and he digs deeper, he uncovers a chilling secret that puts both the residents’ lives and his own in grave danger.

Directed by James DeMonaco from a script he co-wrote with Adam Cantor, the cast is lead by Pete Davidson (Bodies Bodies Bodies) and John Glover (Gremlins 2, Scrooged).

The Home will be released in theaters this Friday, July 25.
