‘Casper’ Haunts Theaters Again for 30th Anniversary This October

The 1995 family Halloween classic Casper will haunt theaters once again this fall for one night only, celebrating this year’s 30th anniversary of the feature film and the 80th birthday of the friendly ghost himself.

The beloved iconic character Casper debuted in his first black and white Famous Studios cartoon, The Friendly Ghost, in 1945, before appearing in comic books published by Harvey Comics since 1952.

Following Harvey’s purchase of the character in 1959, he appeared in a total of five television series: Matty’s Funday Funnies (1959–1961), The New Casper Cartoon Show (1963–1970), Casper and the Angels (1979), The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper (1996–1998), and Casper’s Scare School (2009–2012), making his theatrical film debut in the live-action adaptation Casper, released by Universal Pictures in 1995, when he became the first computer-generated character to star in a film. He would later appear in four direct-to-video and made-for-TV follow-up films.

The 1995 movie stars Christina Ricci (The Addams Family, Wednesday), Bill Pullman (Independence Day), and a young Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Chucky) as the title character.

Casper returns to theaters on October 3, 2025. Get tickets here.
