Outer Banks, NC Becomes Halloween Island in October 2025
The historic and haunted Outer Banks of North Carolina is widely known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic due to the hundreds of shipwrecks just off its shores, and the site of America’s first mystery thanks to the unexplained disappearance of The Lost Colony of Roanoke in 1587, and this October the spirit of the season takes over like never before, as it transforms into Halloween Island for the entire month throughout the town of Manteo.
Halloween Island officially kicks off on October 3, featuring 13 bars transformed into Halloween-themed pop-ups in the Downtown Manteo Social District, with events and specials happening every weekend through October 31.
In addition to the bars, there are also 13 official “eerie inns” offering lodging discounts and specials for Halloween Island, 13 “spooky shops,” and 13 unique events and experiences happening each weekend in October, kicking off with our own independent horror Halloween International Film Festival, Oct. 2-4 at the legendary, 107-year-old Pioneer Theater. Halloween Island events also include the 9th Annual Dare to Scare 5K and Sweet Treat Fun Run on Oct. 25, the Island Farm pumpkin patch, Night of 1587 Pumpkins at the Elizabethan Gardens on Oct. 25, and more.
The best part of Halloween Island may be that it is all located within one easily walkable area in Downtown Manteo, North Carolina.
