Spirit Halloween Launches Official Video Game Online
Spirit Halloween just launched its first ever official video game with the online debut of Haunted: Halloween ’86 Spirit Edition.
Available for digital download on Steam starting today for $9.99 (with more platforms coming soon), Haunted: Halloween ’86 – Spirit Edition offers fans a first-of-its-kind opportunity to engage with the iconic brand beyond its scare-stocked aisles and famous orange banner.
Featuring legendary horror characters – like Trick ‘r Treat’s Sam and Spirit Halloween’s very own Jack the Reaper – the game invites players to explore the cursed town of Possum Hollow and gear up for the ultimate Halloween face-off as they continue the countdown to their favorite holiday.
Fans can also score a limited-edition physical version of the game, playable on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and select Retron consoles for $59.99. The special edition package, available online now while supplies last, includes a custom game box, cartridge, and branded user manual.
The official synopsis: “October 31st 2025: On a quiet evening in Possum Hollow, two kids are looking for the perfect Donny and Tami costumes. On a quest to dress up as their heroes, Steven and Kym venture into a Spirit Halloween, but just as they put on the costumes, they’re surprised by Jack the Reaper who plummets them through a vortex back to 1986 to relive the infamous nightmare that Donny and Tami endured. Jack the Reaper has taken over Possum Hollow with a few old friends and they are having so much fun, it’s scary.
“To find their way home our heroes must battle all sorts of evil and there is nowhere to hide. Teamwork is the key to returning to 2025 in time to trick-or-treat. Steven and Kym must work together to overcome spooky obstacles, climb through chaos, dodge pumpkins and destroy enemies before they come face to face with Spirit Halloween’s finest. With exciting challenges, insane surprises, and a sweet soundtrack.”
The new 2025 exclusive “Spirit Edition” of the Haunted: Halloween ’86 video game (previously released in a non-Spirit version by Retrotainment) is priced at $60, available online now here. The physical edition includes the custom game box, user manual, and vintage NES game cartridge that is actually fully playable in an original NES system or a modern NES cartridge-compatible replica system like the RetroN gaming console from Hyperkin.
