[Interview] Tony Hale and D’Arcy Carden Talk ‘Sketch’, Gateway Horror, and Halloween

A future classic for the entire family, Sketch is in theaters this week, bringing wildly inventive creatures and all the heart of the best of Spielberg, starring Emmy winner Tony Hale and D’Arcy Carden, who joined us recently to discuss how the balance of laughs and heavy themes is what makes the film most like life itself, how it’s perfect gateway horror, and more.

In a our video conversation last week, we also of course talked about Halloween and what it means to both of them.

In the film, when a young girl’s sketchbook falls into a strange pond, her drawings come to life—unpredictable, chaotic, and dangerously real. As the town unravels, she and her brother must track down the creatures before they leave permanent damage. Their father, racing to find them through the fallout, must navigate a town in crisis to reunite his family and stop the disaster they never meant to unleash.

Written and directed by Seth Worley, making his feature debut, the cast includes Tony Hale (Hocus Pocus 2, Arrested Development, Veep), D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place), Bia Belle, Kue Lawrence, and Kalon Kox.

Sketch will be released in theaters this Wednesday, August 6.
