[Interview] Brandon Christensen and Jessica Clement Talk ‘Night of the Reaper’ and Halloween
Shudder is taking viewers back to the 1980s in the new Halloween-set horror movie Night of the Reaper, and we recently talked to director Brandon Christensen about subverting slasher expectations, and to Jessica Clement (Gen V) about portraying a new kind of final girl, and more.
In our fun video conversation last week, we also of course discussed Halloween, their own go-to Halloween movies, and what Halloween itself means to each of them.
In the film: “In the heart of a quiet, 1980s suburb, college student Deena returns home and reluctantly takes on a last-minute babysitting job. That same night, the local sheriff receives a cryptic package that pulls him into a sinister scavenger hunt that sets off a game of cat and mouse with a dangerous killer. As the clues unravel, Deena finds herself ensnared in a nightmarish mystery that she may not survive.”
While the story sets up a seemingly familiar premise of a babysitter being stalked on Halloween Night, Night of the Reaper has something far more unpredictable and rewarding in store. We highly recommend you watch this one before spoilers surface.
Directed and co-written by Brandon Christensen (Still/Born, Z, Superhost, The Puppetman), the cast includes Jessica Clement (Gen V, Dream Scenario), Summer H. Howell (Hunter Hunter, Cult of Chucky), Ryan Robbins (The Thicket, Apollo 18), and Keegan Connor Tracy (Z, Final Destination 2).
Night of the Reaper will premiere on Shudder on Friday, September 19.
