[Interview] Adams Family Talk ‘Mother of Flies’, Making Horror, and Halloween
The latest horror movie from the independent filmmaking Adams Family, Mother of Flies premieres on Shudder this week, and we caught up with co-writers/directors/stars/husband-wife-daughter team John Adams, Toby Poser, and Zelda Adams recently to talk about their unique approach to making horror, and how the film is their most personal yet.
In our fun video conversation last week, we also discussed Halloween and how every day is truly Halloween at their house, plus how Zelda’s first breath of the outside world just leaving the hospital after she was born on October 30 was on Halloween Day, and the family may have decided on a perfect Halloween theme for their next movie. (We are so here for Hellnighter!)
In Mother of Flies: “Mickey (Zelda Adams) faces a deadly diagnosis, but she isn’t ready to die yet. Heading into the woods with her father (John Adams), she seeks dark magic at the hands of mysterious recluse, Solveig (Toby Poser) , who has an intimate relationship with death and roots that go deep in the land. For three days, Mickey endures Solveig’s extreme rituals of death magic. But every cure has its cost, and every curse is another’s gift. As buried secrets claw their way to the surface, the veil between the living and the dead begins to unravel, and Mickey finds herself facing dark truths that only the dead and the dying can know.”
Written and directed by, and starring John Adams, Toby Poser, and Zelda Adams, known collectively as The Adams Family, this marks their eighth feature film in 15 years.
Mother of Flies premieres on Shudder on Friday, January 23.
