New ‘Halloween’ Video Game Details on Playing as Michael Myers
Michael Myers is coming to your home to stalk your consoles in 2026 in the upcoming Halloween video game, and we have new details on playing as Michael Myers and Civilian hero characters in the multiplayer version of the game, in addition to the singleplayer campaign, from IllFonic chief creative officer Jared Gerritzen.
Speaking to Game Informer, Gerritzen says, “Halloween is a special one because it is a true slasher horror game. We wanted to go back to the basic rules, jump scares, lots of gore, tension of what is around the corner; a real back-to-the-basics of what is seriously scary.
Players will be able to become The Shape in the game, with a unique stalking “Shape Jump” ability that allows Michael Myers to vanish and reappear, as he does in the movies.
Gerritzen explains, “[Michael’s] ability to show up in the most insane moments [during films] was not only a great jump scare but a really great way to break up moments. I noticed he shut the lights off in a scene, and we thought maybe he just wants it dark all the time, and why would that be? Then the idea of how we could play with that as a game mechanic started to form, and Shape Jump, as an ability to move around the map without anyone knowing, was born.
“We made some gameplay rules around it for balance purposes, of course. [As] long as there is no direct light and no one is looking at the area Michael is in, then the ability can be used. It really adds a great level of play, [and] the ability has brought a horrifying element of being stalked by Michael and never knowing where he will pop up.”
While you can also opt to play as four new “Civilian” hero characters trying to save Haddonfield residents from The Bogeyman, IllFonic has put a lot of focus into the bots in multiplayer, which can boost Michael’s power as he kills them. According to Gerritzen, “They really add to the body count and allow a Michael player to power up if they desire. This also affects the hero players as well, with their fear systems.”
In the highly anticipated video game, Michael Myers will once again be played by the original Shape actor Nick Castle, as well as actor and stuntman T.J. Storm, working together performing the motion capture to bring The Shape to life.
With Malek Akkad producing and John Carpenter as executive producer, Halloween will be published by IllFonic, co-published by Gun Interactive, in partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and Epic Game Stores.
Halloween will be released on September 8, 2026.
