‘Hocum’ Trailer Previews Turnip Jack O’ Lanterns in Irish Folk Horror Movie
We thought we could not be more excited for the next horror film from the director of Oddity, but then we saw the jack o’ lanterns in the official trailer that dropped today for the new Irish folk horror movie Hocum, including what appears to be some that are carved into turnips, as in how the ancient Halloween tradition began in Ireland.
The official synopsis: “When novelist Ohm Bauman retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Soon, disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.”
In the trailer, orange pumpkin jack o’ lanterns can clearly be seen in the background as Adam Scott’s character arrives at the haunted inn, and smaller turnip jack o’ lanterns can later be glimpsed glowing as he walks across a dark hallway.
Written and directed by Damian McCarthy (Oddity), and starring Adam Scott (Krampus, Severance), the film comes from Neon, the studio behind Longlegs, Hell of a Summer, and Immaculate.
Hocum arrives in theaters on May 1.
