Is Charles Cyphers Reprising Sheriff Brackett in ‘Halloween Kills’?

Tom Atkins recently made headlines when he let it be known that he’d love to have a cameo role in the upcoming Halloween sequels, and while we are all for that idea, an even bigger revelation is deeper in the interview, when Atkins states that Charles Cyphers is coming back for Halloween Kills.

Charles Cyphers of course played Haddonfield Sheriff Leigh Brackett in John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween and appeared briefly in the role again in the 1981 sequel Halloween II. Brackett is the father of Laurie Strode’s friend Annie, who was one of Michael Myers’ victims in the original Halloween.

In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Tom Atkins commented on Blumhouse’s sequels to 2018’s Halloween, saying, “I would love to do a cameo in one of the new ones, I’d jump right in that. I would love to do that.”

Atkins of course starred as Dr. Dan Challis in the 1982 sequel Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which was referenced in Halloween 2018, when three trick or treaters are briefly seen wearing all three Silver Shamrock masks from the film. Atkins can next be seen in the upcoming Halloween-set slasher Trick, which will be released this October.

In that same interview, Atkins goes on to drop this bombshell: “I think Chuck (Cyphers) is going to be in this next one. He was in a bunch of those early ones, the original and a bunch thereafter. So he’s going to be in it. I would love to do it. But (the filmmakers), so far, they haven’t jumped out at me.”

With rumors circulating that Tommy Doyle will be featured, it already looks like the sequel(s) will explore how the 1978 babysitter murders impacted other survivors beyond just Laurie Strode. It definitely makes sense that Cyphers would reprise his role as a retired Sheriff Brackett, who may want to get involved after news of Myers’ 2018 escape is made public. It is likely reports of Michael’s return to Haddonfield that brings both Brackett and Doyle back into the plot of this new timeline, if the rumors turn out to be true.

As we previously reported, the Halloween Kills will be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, with pre-production currently underway and filming set to begin in early September.

Halloween Kills, is set for theatrical release on Friday, October 16th, 2020, with David Gordon Green returning to direct from a script he co-wrote with returning collaborator Danny McBride and newcomer Scott Teems.

Halloween Ends, intended as the finale of the saga, will be released on Friday, October 15th, 2021. Green will direct as well, from a script he co-wrote with McBride and writers new to the series, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier.

Based on characters created by series originator John Carpenter and Debra Hill, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends will be produced by Malek Akkad, Jason Blum, and Bill Block. Green, McBride, Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jeanette Volturno, Couper Samuelson, and Ryan Freimann will serve as executive producers, with Ryan Turek overseeing both projects for Blumhouse.

Judy Greer, Andi Matichak are also expected to reprise their respective roles as Laurie’s daughter and granddaughter, and we fully expect James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle to continue their collaboration in portraying Michael Myers in the new films.
