‘Scream 7’ Confirmed with ‘Happy Death Day’s Christopher Landon Directing

Following the massive box office success of this year’s Halloween-set Scream VI, it was inevitable that Ghostface would return, and today brings confirmation that Scream 7 is in development with Christopher Landon taking over directing duties from Radio Silence, as they complete their Universal Monsters movie.

Spyglass, producers of the two most recent Scream films, has officially found their new director for the next installment of the franchise, signing Christopher Landon, the director Freaky and the Happy Death Day movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, two thirds of the collective know as Radio Silence, are currently in production on their own spin on an as-yet-unknown character from Universal’s classic monster catalog, reportedly centering on Dracula’s daughter, starring Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter in 2022’s Scream and this year’s Scream VI. Production is currently halted on the project due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

It is unknown at this time who will write Scream 7 or if the surviving characters from the most recent film will return. Paramount is expected to distribute the new movie. In any case, production will not begin until the strikes have ended.
