The annual Tidewater Comicon returns to Virginia Beach, VA this month with a super lineup of celebrity guests and comic book royalty descending onto the Virginia Beach Convention Center for what has quickly become the largest event of its kind in its region.
Among the guests we are most excited to catch up with is the great Ernie Hudson (pictured above), star of classics like The Crow and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, in addition to his signature role as Winston Zedmore in the 1984 landmark blockbuster Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel. We’re looking forward to talking to Hudson about the recent resurgence of all things Ghostbusters in pop culture, and maybe get a preview of what to expect from his cameo in this summer’s reboot.
Other special guests attending the event include Flash Gordon (1980) icon Sam Jones (Ted, Ted 2), Mighty Morphin Power Rangers star Karan Ashley, and voice actor Steve Blum, who Stars Wars fans will recognize as the voice of Zeb in the current Rebels TV series, among his countless other notable characters.
Brian O’Halloran, star of director Kevin Smith’s debut film Clerks, is also coming to Virginia Beach, along with his Clerks co-star Marilyn Ghigliotti.
North Carolina’s own Jackie Craft, of Manteo, is also one of this year’s special guests, and we can’t wait to see what awesome cosplay outfits she has to show off for Comicon. Jackie will be joined by pro cosplayers Ani Mia and Jillian Ryan.
Light the bat signal and call in all Dark Knight fans, as there will be not one but four (!) different Batmobiles on display, including the 1966 TV version, the 1989 Tim Burton Batman version, the 1995 Batman Forever version, and the 2005 tumbler from Batman Begins.
But that’s all just the beginning, because the real treat at this event is for comic book fans to meet the artists, writers, and creators behind their favorite works, and some of the best in the business will be in Virginia Beach for Tidewater Comicon 2016.
Just a few of the artists and writers set to attend include Gerry Conway, who co-created Marvel fan favorite The Punisher and scripted the death of Gwen Stacy for The Amazing Spider-Man; Larry Hama (G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Wolverine, Elektra), who also wrote the character bios for the 1980s G.I. Joe action figures; Batman/Superman and The Dark Tower artist Jae Lee; and DC vs. Marvel writer Ron Marz (Silver Surfer, Green Lantern).
And that’s just some of the big names from the comic world that are coming to make this the event for fans to be at.
The most recently confirmed guest, just announced today, is professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Fame member Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Tidewater Comicon takes over the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22.
