Tonezee Talks Monster Art [Video]

The biggest event of its kind in the region, Tidewater Comicon returned to Virginia Beach May 12-13, bringing with it many of the iconic creators, writers, and artists of your favorite comic book heroes and villains, along with actors from various genre films and TV shows, amazing cosplay, and uniquely talented vendors, including rapper and artist Tonezee.

Tidewater Comicon 2018 took over the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, VA for two days on Saturday and Sunday, May 12-13, and Halloween Daily News was on the scene again this year to bring you full coverage, including photos, videos, and interviews.

Artist Tonezee, who is actually from my hometown of Portsmouth, VA (shout out to P-Town), was among the many vendors at Tidewater Comicon this year, showing off his colorful horror art and custom-made Kaiju monster figures.

“I’m a big fan of Godzilla and Kaiju, but I couldn’t afford the figures that they sell,” he told us. “So I decided to make my own, and now that I’m selling them, I can actually afford the ones that I wanted. But people like the ones that I make. They’re pretty accurate, and I put a cool twist on it.”

In addition to his highly detailed Kaiju figures, the artwork he had on display in Virginia Beach featured many of horror’s greatest icons, including the Frankenstein monster, Nosferatu, the Wolfman, the Mummy, a Martian invader, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and more recent killers like Pennywise and Michael Myers.

“My art and paintings are just stuff that I like,” said Tonezee. “It’s fun for me, and then I can turn around and sell it to anyone that wants it. Monsters, video games, all that stuff, it’s my favorite.” He added that he has been into monsters ever since he was a kid.

To see more of Tonezee’s work, and also to check out his nerdcore rap music, be sure to visit his official Facebook page.
