[Interview] Sarah Butler on Her Dream Film and Favorite Halloween Candy

We had the pleasure of meeting the lovely and talented Sarah Butler at the Scares That Care Charity Weekend in Williamsburg, VA in August, where we sat down for a chat about her dream film project, what makes Scares That Care special, her favorite Halloween candy, and more.

Making her first Scares That Care appearance at the sixth annual event, Aug. 2-4, 2019, Butler said of the charity organization, “I love conventions, but this one has a whole other level of depth and a warm fuzzy feeling because we’re doing this for a great cause. We have a couple of recipients this year, and I’m very happy to helping contribute to their families in their time of need. I think that’s one of the most amazing things that we can do – that anyone can do, but I’ve been given this opportunity and I’m super grateful. Scares That Care is like a big family, and I’m so glad to be a part of it now.

Describing a new film project that she wrote and is hoping to develop, Butler told us, “It’s an action thriller, female driven. I wrote it for myself to star in.  Kind of the objective was to really give the fans of I Spit on Your Grave something that they would love to see, but then elevate that to another level. So in this one I’m not just avenging myself, but I’m avenging on behalf of someone who is vulnerable, and it kind of brings it to another level I think.”

“The initial idea was conceived while drinking Bloody Marys at a hotel pool with my buddy, and he was like, ‘What do you think would make a good sequel to I Spit on Your Grave?’ And I said, ‘Well I think this, this, and this should happen’, and we made notes on our phones, and that’s how it started. Then it just developed over time, and we decided to move it away from the franchise so that we have the option to produce it with whoever we want to and have more control over it. That was over five years ago, so it’s been a process.”

We also discussed Sarah’s early memories of trick or treating and her favorite Halloween candy.
