‘Batman: The Long Halloween Special’ Continues the Iconic Comic Book Story!
With this year’s animated feature film adaptations Batman: The Long Halloween Part One out now and The Long Halloween Part Two just weeks away, DC Comics announced today that the creators of the original 13-issue comic book arc, Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, are reuniting for an all-new 48-page Special issue that will continue the iconic story.
A quarter century has passed since the release of the Eisner Award winning Batman: The Long Halloween from the creative team of writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale, and this October, Loeb and Sale return to continue their story and show that some secrets never stay buried in Batman: The Long Halloween Special.
“Twenty-five years ago, Tim Sale and I set out to tell a mystery tale of how Gotham City went from crime to freaks,” said Jeph Loeb in a statement released by DC. “The result was Batman: The Long Halloween. We’re thrilled to be back at DC revisiting some of our favorite characters all the while revealing that you may not know the whole story…”
This marks the return of the Batman Halloween specials, and promises a mystery that could destroy Batman, Commissioner Gordon, Two-Face, “and…well, that would be telling, wouldn’t it?”
“As it has always been, working together on Batman has brought out the best of Jeph and myself as Gotham City storytellers,” added Tim Sale. “We have been blessed to have the mighty talents of Comicraft’s Richard Starkings with us every step of the way, and are very fortunate to welcome colorist, Brennan Wagner, to help shape our latest venture.”
Originally published in 1996-1997, Loeb and Sale’s original 13-issue comic book story The Long Halloween follows a killer who murders people on every holiday for a year, from Halloween to the next Halloween, and it also features many of Batman’s iconic villains as he investigates the murders over the course of a year.
The first half of this year’s animated film adaptations, The Long Halloween Part One is out now on Blu-ray and Digital. Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two will be available on Digital on July 27 and on Blu-ray on August 10, from Warner Bros Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
Written by Loeb with artwork by Sale, colors by Brennan Wagner (Grendel) and lettering by Richard Starkings (Elephantmen), Batman: The Long Halloween Special will be available for $7.99 at local comic book shops in a 48-page prestige format on October 12, 2021.
