[Interview] ‘Arcadian’s Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins Talk Creatures and Halloween
The new post-apocalyptic horror movie Arcadian, starring Nicolas Cage, arrives in theaters this week, and we talked to the film’s co-stars Jaeden Martell (It) and Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) about the relaxed vibe on set despite the intense nature of the subject matter, shooting a creature feature, and more.
Arcadian takes place in a near future, where normal life on Earth has been decimated. Paul (played by Cage) and his two sons, Thomas (Jenkins) and Joseph (Martell), have been living a half-life of tranquility by day and torment by night, because every night, after the sun sets, they face the unrelenting attacks of a mysterious and violent evil. One day, when Thomas doesn’t return home before sundown, Paul must leave the safety of their fortified farm to find him, as a nightmarish battle ensues that forces the family to execute a desperate plan to survive.
In our video conversation on Tuesday, Martell and Jenkins also delighted in talking a bit about Halloween, revealing their favorite costumes and candy treats, and Jenkins described how his dad goes all out every October 31st.
“I grew up in a travelling circus,” Jenkins said, “and my dad kind of goes overboard for Halloween, and he brings in all the circus performers and we do like a crazy show to terrify children for the rest of their lives. It’s so sick.”
