[Interview] Noomi Rapace, Andrzej Konopka, and Agnieszka Smoczynska Talk ‘Hot Spot’

The future arrives when Hot Spot heats up theaters this week, a hypnotic and highly original vision of the future that is mind meltingly unpredictable, extremely bloody, darkly humorous, and absolutely poignant, and we were thrilled to talk to the film’s leads Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and Andrezej Konopka, and director Agnieszka Smoczynska recently about creating a world where its labeled witchcraft when a rebel refuses to log into the ruling A.I., how it’s not too far removed from our current world, and more.

In our video conversation earlier this month, we also all agreed that Konopka’s wildly cool wardrobe in the film is sure to inspire Halloween costumes this year, including Rapace’s. “That’s going to be my Halloween costume,” she says.

In Hot Spot: “Set in a near future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.”

Directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska (The Lure) from a script written by Robert Bolesto, the film stars Andrzej Konopka, Noomi Rapace, and Reika Kirishima.

Hot Spot arrives in theaters this Friday, August 21, from Focus Features.
