‘Trick ‘r Treat’s Sam is Back in New ‘Soul of Halloween’ Animated Shorts and More
The icon of the modern Halloween classic Trick ‘r Treat, Sam is back with brand new animated shorts, illustrations, and more from creator Michael Dougherty, who has just officially launched Sam: The Soul of Halloween, coinciding with the ongoing 30th anniversary festival and independent theater screenings of the new 4K restoration of Dougherty’s 1996 short that introduced Sam, the animated Season’s Greetings, including at our own Halloween International Film Festival.
An official teaser trailer was released last night, on the eve of October, and the first new animated short dropped today, October 1, both of which you can watch below.
From the teaser description: 30 years ago, a strange little trick-or-treater named Sam first stepped out of the shadows and into our hearts. And this October, he’s finally coming home. All month long, we’ll be bringing you new animation, art, screenings, mischief, and much, much more, all courtesy of the creepy little fella who started it all. Brought to you by Sam’s original creator, Michael Dougherty ‪(Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus, Godzilla: King of the Monsters). And featuring the amazing work of Ye Aung, Mike Baird, Breehn Burns‬, Michael Ballif (Witching Season Films), Dead Man’s Bones, Rory Dise, Sam Furst, Ami Goff, Cyrus Haley‬, Sam Kays, Moss Lawton, Austin Pardun, Douglas Pipes, Alexander Ray, Steven Rhodes, Christopher Shy, Trent Shy, and many more.
Don’t miss your chance to see the new Season’s Greetings 4K restoration on the big screen, playing with the new post-apocalyptic Halloween horror feature film Hallowarrior and more surprise tricks and treats from Sam, as the closing presentation at the Halloween International Film Festival, screening on Saturday night, Oct. 24, at Roanoke Island Festival Park on the Outer Banks, NC. Tickets are on sale online here.
In addition, fans can experience four all-new Sam stories in the upcoming graphic novel anthology Trick ‘r Treat: Witching Hours, to be released on October 13 and available to order here.
