‘Scream: Resurrection’ Brings Ghostface to VH1
Originally announced as a reboot of the MTV series back in 2017, the Scream television franchise has announced a move over to VH1, premiering this summer with a three-night event that will feature the return of the iconic Ghostface mask from the Scream films, as well as Roger Jackson reprising his role from the movies as the voice of the killer.
While the entire Scream franchise, including all four Wes Craven-directed films and the MTV series, has often referenced Michael Myers and the Halloween franchise, as well as pretty much every major horror franchise, over the years, the teaser trailer for the new season suggests that at least part of the action this time will take place around Halloween itself. There looks to be black and orange decorations lining the hallway of a school at one point in the teaser and costumes are glimpsed at another point.
As THR reports, the retooled six-episode third season, Scream: Resurrection, will debut on Monday, July 8, and will run for two hours per night, starting at 9pm, through Wednesday, July 10.
The third season of Scream was announced way back in 2016, with Brett Matthews (The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural) taking over as the drama’s third showrunner. The rebooted series also added an all new cast, including Mary J. Blige, Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, R.J. Cyler, Tyga, Giorgia Whigham, Jessica Sula, C.J. Wallace, Giullian Yao Gioiello, and guest star Paris Jackson, as well as a new premise and location.
Also new in season three is the iconic Ghostface mask, which MTV’s Scream had previously been unable to use. Roger Jackson, who voiced the killer in the Scream film franchise, will reprise the role for the VH1 version, marking the first time the original Ghostface mask will be used on television.
Season three, subtitled Resurrection, centers on Deion Elliot (Cyler), a local star football running back, whose tragic past comes back to haunt him and threaten his hard-earned plans for the future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.
