‘Cult of Chucky’ Announcement Teaser, Details Released

The most killer toy ever is back, as Universal Studios officially announced today that the seventh film in the Child’s Play horror franchise will begin production this Monday, titled Curse of Chucky, and an announcement video and details have been released.

Cult of Chucky is written and will be directed by franchise creator Don Mancini, who co-wrote the original 1988 film and also wrote and directed the last two movies in the series, 2004’s Seed of Chucky and 2013’s Curse of Chucky, and it will pickup after the events of Curse.

The film’s cast includes the great Brad Dourif, who will once again voice the possessed doll Chucky, as well as some other returning characters, including Dourif’s daughter Fiona, who is reprising her Curse role of Nica Pierce, and fellow franchise veterans Alex Vincent, who starred as Andy in the first two Child’s Play movies and had a surprise cameo in an after-credits scene in Curse, and Jennifer Tilly, who voiced Chucky’s soulmate Tiffany in Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky and was also featured breifly in Curse.

An early synopsis has also been released, revealing that Cult of Chucky will catch up with the younger Dourif’s character Nica Pierce at an asylum for the criminally insane where she has been confined for the past four years and is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when Nica’s psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all.

Andy Barclay (Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.

Cult of Chucky will be released in an unrated version on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD this fall, in time for Halloween.
