A New Game Begins in ‘Spiral: From the Book of Saw’ Trailer

A new official trailer for the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw was released online today, featuring a reimagined pig mask, a new puppet, and a theatrical release date for this May.

Spiral is the ninth film in the Saw franchise that started with the 2004 original from James Wan and Leigh Whannell, and the first since 2017’s Jigsaw. For many years, a new Saw movie was almost synonymous with the Halloween season, but this latest entry, which appears to be a bit of a requel, will arrive in spring.

Directed by franchise veteran Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV, Tales of Halloween) and written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, the new film stars Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nichols.

The official synopsis: A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 14.
