First ‘Halloween Kills’ Reactions Say It More Than Earns Its Name

Today is a big day for Halloween Kills, with the world premiere screening of the highly anticipated sequel happening at the Venice Film Festival, a new track from the official soundtrack was unleashed this morning, and a brand new image of Michael Myers has been released, paying homage to a scene from the original 1978 Halloween.

The first ever public screening of the film took place earlier today in Venice, where Jamie Lee Curtis took off her heels and walked to the stage to The Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” to accept her Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement award.

Reactions and reviews from the screening(s) have made their online, and we’ve collected a few of our favorite tweets from some of those who were in the audience below.

We also have new comments from Jamie Lee Curtis and David Gordon Green on the film and its prescient themes.

When Curtis accepted her lifetime achievement award, she took the stage (barefoot, to the tune of “Sweet Dreams”) and said, “Thank you again for this great honor. I dedicate it to the victims and survivors of violence. All types. Physical. Political. Spiritual. Sexual. Psychological. Cultural. Emotional, Domestic, and the violence and hatred of discrimination against ANY and ALL who dare to have their own ideas and minds.

“I proudly accept this tonight with a clear, sober mind of my own and with an open and incredibly grateful heart.”

Halloween Kills will be released on October 15, 2021, and we are expecting the second trailer to drop any day now.
