Kane Hodder Talks Honoring Gunnar Hansen in ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ Game

During a Q&A panel at the Mad Monster Party horror convention last weekend in North Carolina, Gun Media’s Creative Director Ronnie Hobbs and Lead Community Developer Matt Szep were joined by Kane Hodder, who plays Leatherface in the recently announced The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game, revealing some exciting new details about what players can expect, as Hodder explained his intention to honor his friend, the late Gunnar Hansen, in his portrayal of the iconic killer.

At the panel on Saturday, Feb. 19, Hodder said, “I played the character of Leatherface, doubling for R.A. (Mihailoff) in the third film, so I was kind of used to mimicking his performance, because that’s what you do as a stunt double, you try to mimic your person. Then we were talking about it, and we want (this) Leatherface to be reminiscent of Gunnar Hansen. He’s the original, classic Leatherface character.

“So I started thinking, I want to try to make it look reminiscent of Gunnar, because Gunnar was a good friend of mine. I still have pictures of him on my phone. My very first appearance I ever did to sign autographs was with Gunnar at Spooky World in Massachusetts back in like ’88.

“He and I just became good friends, and I really miss him still, so if I can do any kind of tribute to his performance within the game based on what he did in the film, then I feel honored to do so… I just feel like I’m doing the ultimate respect to Gunnar doing the chainsaw dance as much as I can like he did.”
