Courteney Cox Confirms Gale Weathers’ Return in ‘Scream 6’

Just hours after Neve Campbell released a statement today confirming that she will not be returning for the upcoming sixth Scream movie, Campbell’s co-star for all five of the previous films in the franchise, Courteney Cox has apparently confirmed that she will be back for the sequel, once again portraying Gale Weathers.

In a new interview with Variety, Cox says, “I did not die so yes you will see me. Gale’s pretty strong. She may not ever [die], but who knows!”

The official synopsis: The Scream saga continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

Earlier today, Campbell released a statement explaining that she will not reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in the sequel due failed contract negotiations. Read her full comments here.

As previously reported, Hayden Panettiere will make her return to the big screen as “Kirby Reed,” reprising her role from Scream 4 (2011). Panettiere joins previously announced returning cast members Melissa Barrera (“Sam,”) Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Mindy,”) Mason Gooding (“Chad,”) and Jenna Ortega (“Tara”). Dermot Mulroney has also joined the cast.

At the helm are Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream, Ready or Not), with James Vanderbilt (“Scream,” “Murder Mystery) and Guy Busick (Scream, Ready or Not) co-writing the screenplay. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak are serving as producers. Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, are executive producing alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena.

Filming is set to start in early summer.

Scream 6 (currently untitled) will arrive in theaters on March 31, 2023.
